Case Summary

Twana H. S., an Iraqi national, has allegedly been a member of ISIS between October 2015 and December 2017. According to prosecutors he purchased a five-year-old Yazidi girls as a slave on a market in Mosul at the request of his wife Asia R. A. In early October 2017, the couple allegedly purchased another, then twelve-year-old, Yazidi girl. Twana H. S. allegedly raped both girls repeatedly. He is further accused of having economically exploited both girls by consistently coercing them into household work and childcare. According to prosecutors, both girls were prohibited from practising their own religion. Instead, they had to follow the couple’s instructions regarding Islamic prayers. The couple is further said to have repeatedly beaten both girls, at times using hard objects. Prior to the couple's departure from Syria in November 2017, they allegedly handed over the girls to other members of ISIS. Twana H. S. and his wife Asia R. A. were arrested in Germany in April 2024 and placed in pre-trial detention. The indictment was filed in December 2024.
