Monika K., a German national, travelled to Syria where she joined ISIS in February 2014. She was married to several ISIS fighters in arow, and took care of the household for each of them. Together with her first husband, Monika K. lived in a house in Iraq, whose lawful owners had to flee from ISIS. Additionally, she spread ISIS propaganda online and collected financial donations for ISIS affiliates in Kurdish camps. On her way to Al-Hol camp, she was captured by Turkish forces in 2020 and placed in extradition detention until her return to Germany in March 2022, where she was arrested upon return. In August of the same year, she was indicted with war crimes and membership in a foreign terrorist organisations of which she was both found guilty in February 2023 and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months imprisonment, pursuant to juvenile justice, as the court deemed her to have been a not fully mature you adult for most of the time during which she committed the crimes.
