Lina I., a Swedish national, travelled to Syria with her five children in 2013 and remained in ISIS territory for 8 years. During that time, Lina I. gave birth to more children more children, after her husband died in combat and she remarried. In 2017, one of her children died after she allowed him to fight for armed groups, including ISIS, between August 2013 and May 2016 when he was 12 to 15-years-old. On 5 February 2021, Lina I. was returned to Sweden and seven months later arrested on suspicions of committing war crimes in Syria. On 4 March 2022, Lina I. was convicted of war crime of child recruitment and sentenced to 6 years imprisonment.
