Camilla O., a Swedish citizen travelled to Syria in 2013 in order to support ISIS. In doing so, she took her two under-aged daughters with her. Camilla O. was also accompanied by Abdirahman S., another supporter of Jihadism. In Syria, Camilla O. stayed within ISIS territory where she also housed her daughters. Eventually, she agreed to marry one of them to Abdirahman S. according to ISIS’ marriage procedures. During the marriage, Abdirahman S. raped the girl multiple times. After returning to Sweden, Camilla O. was arrested in March 2022. In October of the same year, she had to face charges in relation to human trafficking of minors as an offence against liberty and peace, rape, and forced marriage. In January 2023, the court of first instance found Camilla O. guilty of several counts of aiding and abetting aggravated rape of minors and sentenced her to 8 years and 6 months in prison. In May 2023, the court of appeal confirmed the sentence, however, amended the guilty verdict to two counts of human trafficking of minors as an offence against liberty and peace, instead of two counts of aiding and abetting aggravated rape of minors, and increased the sum of the previously ordered payment of victim compensation to both plaintiffs, Camilla O.’s daughters. The court of appeal also found that Camilla O. took her daughters with her and eventually married one of them to an ISIS affiliate pursuant to the organisation’s ideology according to which girls and women were expected to be obedient to their spouses, including forced sexual intercourse.
